Lark & Mimi Learn to Save Debuts at Family Literacy Extravaganza in Baton Rouge

New early learning financial literacy program launches as the foundation of Louisiana’s statewide financial literacy pipeline.

Baton Rouge, LA - October 25, 2025 - Lark & Mimi Learn to Save, a Louisiana-born early learning financial literacy series, made its official soft launch on Thursday, October 23, 2025, during the Delta Sigma Theta Family Literacy Extravaganza at Broadmoor High School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Created by Louisiana native and entrepreneur Kim Marie Braud, Lark & Mimi Learn to Save is a locally developed early learning program for Pre-K through Kindergarten students (ages 3–6). The series introduces foundational money concepts - earning, saving, spending, and sharing - through joyful storytelling, coloring, and hands-on activities that align with Louisiana’s Early Learning Standards and complement the state’s 2027 Financial Literacy Mandate (Act 480/HB 52).

“Financial literacy starts with the simplest lessons -recognizing coins, making choices, and understanding that saving today creates opportunity tomorrow,” said Braud. “We created Lark & Mimi to make those lessons joyful, engaging, and rooted in the everyday experiences of Louisiana families.”

The program provides teachers and parents with tools to begin financial education early, including:

  • 25-page coloring and activity book
  • Illustrated storybook featuring Lark and Mimi
  • Financial vocabulary flashcards
  • DIY piggy bank kit
  • Sticker reward system
  • Family engagement guide

At the Delta Sigma Theta Family Literacy Extravaganza, more than 42 children received complimentary copies of Lark & Mimi Learn to Save, marking the first public distribution of the new series. Families participated in interactive reading sessions and hands-on savings activities that brought the stories to life.

“Starting financial literacy early is critical to building lifelong money confidence and preparing children for success in school and beyond,” said Braud. “Launching Lark & Mimi at a family literacy event, surrounded by parents, educators, and children, was the perfect way to begin.”

Following its Baton Rouge debut, Lark & Mimi Learn to Save will enter pilot programs across local schools and early childhood centers this winter, with plans to expand statewide in 2026. The program represents the first stage of The Couvent Collective’s ‘Bookend Financial Literacy Continuum,’ which begins with Lark & Mimi for early learners and culminates in a forthcoming high-school curriculum launching in 2026 to help districts meet Act 480’s mandate.

“We want Louisiana students to start learning about money in preschool and graduate ready to manage it confidently in real life” stated Braud

The Couvent Collective, a Public Benefit Corporation, develops education and entrepreneurship initiatives that strengthen families, schools, and communities through practical, forward-thinking programs.
