Louisiana is stepping into a new era of education. By 2027, every high school in the state will be required to teach financial literacy, a critical step toward preparing students for real-world success.
But compliance alone isn’t enough. Our students deserve financial education that reflects who they are, where they come from, and what their futures can be.
That’s why we created Lark & Mimi™, a culturally responsive, Louisiana-specific financial literacy curriculum designed to build financial power from preschool to graduation.
Across the nation, financial literacy rates tell a sobering story: only 42% of Gen Z adults can answer basic financial questions correctly. In Louisiana, the numbers are even more concerning. And within our Black and Brown communities, the gap is wider still.
Too often, our children are taught about money in abstract terms, with no context for the realities they face. Lark & Mimi™ changes that by meeting students where they are, using relatable stories, local examples, and characters who look like them.
Each module was built with Louisiana students and educators in mind, integrating:
-
Real Louisiana cost-of-living and job market examples
-
TOPS and FAFSA guidance
-
Conversations about systemic barriers, wealth gaps, and community empowerment
-
Social-emotional learning (SEL) to help students connect money to mindset
-
Family engagement materials that bring financial literacy home
The Lark & Mimi™ world includes story-driven lessons, character-led activities, and teacher-ready tools, so schools can focus on teaching, not adapting generic content.
We’re partnering with schools, banks, and community organizations to bring this curriculum to classrooms across the state. Through bank CRA partnerships, Title funds, and community foundations, Lark & Mimi™ ensures that financial literacy access doesn’t depend on a school’s budget.
Every partnership brings us closer to closing the literacy gap and empowering families with knowledge that lasts generations.
Our goal is to make Louisiana the national model for culturally responsive financial education. When a child learns how to earn, save, invest, and build wealth, the ripple effects transform families, schools, and entire communities.
That’s the legacy we’re building with Lark & Mimi™.
We’re currently collaborating with pilot schools, education partners, and financial institutions who share our commitment to equity through education. If you’d like to bring Lark & Mimi™ to your school or partner with us in funding Louisiana’s financial future, we’d love to connect.
